This is the second update of this app since its launch on December 30, 2016.

• Introduced ‘SPAM Report’ for collect requests. This feature will help a user to block unknown persons requesting for money.

How does it work?

Merchants need to download the Aadhaar cashless merchant app on their smartphones connected to a biometric reader, which is currently available for Rs 2,000. The customer will then feed his or her Aadhar number into the app, select the bank through which the transaction will take place, and the biometric scan will work as a password for the transaction to be authenticated.

Unlike other UPI apps where you have a cluttered interface, BHIM is a no-frills UPI app.

Creating UPI Address on ‘BHIM’ App

By default, your registered mobile is your UPI address. For instance, if your mobile number is 9821198200, your default UPI address will be 9821198200@upi. You also get an option to create your customized UPI address, which could be your nickname or full name.

If Users have Multiple Accounts:

• In case if users are having multiple bank accounts, then they can navigate between their accounts easily.
• On the home screen of the ‘BHIM’ App users can check the option ‘My Information’ from which users can choose their corresponding bank account.
• After selecting the corresponding bank a/c users can see the options of, the details of existing amount, option to change or reset PIN and request for the account balance.
• Navigating to the other bank is so simple. Just click on the Dots appearing on the right side corner to go to the other bank a/c.

BHIM App Transfer Limits:

As UPI is built on top of Immediate Payment Service (IMPS), the transaction takes place in seconds.

• The payment system works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days.
• You can transfer as low as Re 1 and maximum of Rs 20,000 per day.
• However, in a single transaction, you can transfer the maximum of Rs 10,000.

About Bharat Interface for Money:

Here’s a clarification on a security feedback provided by an user on Facebook:

1. The App is not written in Native code, not much of an issue if the code is generated by any of the popular RAD IDE and tweaked for security.

— BHIM is a hybrid app developed with both Native Java code and Web technologies. It uses the Native UPI common library SDK to capture and encrypt the sensitive credentials.

2. Crypto is False infact non-existent.
— BHIM uses the Crypto features of the UPI common library SDK for encryption.

3. Obfuscation of the code is not present, ideally it should have been done using something like ProGuard.

– The native code is ProGuarded. The web technology code is minified and signed.

4. A hell lot of commented code is still lying unattended inside the files; bloating the size and also increasing risks. The person is asking for donations..

– Thanks for the feedback. We will look into removing the commented code and reduce size.
– An open source library in the code has a donation link which is typical for open source developers. It will be removed as a part of removing other comments.

5. Broadcast receiver is not protected and shared with other Apps, could lead to data leak.

— We use the broadcast receiver for receiving UPI app switch intent calls and SMS OTP auto read function. Care has been taken to validate and consume only relevant inputs that reach the broadcast receiver. Please send us feedback at [email protected] if you have concerns regarding this.
